Pre-Preppers have learned and sung “Wheels on the Bus” and “BINGO.” We have also had fun playing different instruments and listening to Carnival of the Animals.

Preppers have enjoyed listening and dancing to classical music and learning “Itsy Bitsy Spider.” We have also listened to Carnival of the Animals.

Pre-K had continued to work on partner dancing and listened to Carnival of the Animals. We have also learned “Mulberry Bush” and accompanied songs by playing instruments to songs we already know.

Kindergarten has learned about the woodwind family, and more specifically the flute. We have also played Music Jeopardy.

1st grade has continued to learn about different notation terms and briefly studied a score. We have also played Music Jeopardy.

2nd grade has studied the percussion family by listening to examples and looking at all the mallets and sticks used. We have also played Music Jeopardy.

3rd grade has studied and worked on putting instruments in their correct families. We have also played Music Jeopardy.

4th and 5th grade have been working hard to get their belts in recorder karate before the end of the school year.

April 23 – May 4

Pre-Preppers have listened and danced to Ponchielli’s Dance of the Hours.  We have also sung “Baby Bumblebee,” “Wheels on the Bus,” and “BINGO.” 

Preppers have listened and danced to Ponchielli’s Dance of the Hours. We have also learned and sung “Frog in the Meadow” and “Frog Went a Courting.” We listened and sang “Kookaburra” as well.

Pre-K has listened and danced to Ponchielli’s Dance of the Hours. We have also read “The Mysterious Wahoo” and danced to African music. We have begun working on partner dancing.

Kindergarten has explored various melodic instruments, recognizing how there are different pitches for the instruments. We have also worked on dynamics by singing many familiar nursery rhymes.

1st grade has marched around the classroom playing percussive instruments to work on steady beat. We have also worked on recognizing different parts in music.

2nd grade has played various rhythms in a drum circle setting. We have also worked on labeling parts in music and reading music.

3rd grade has studied time signature in depth and improved their note-reading skills. We have also used melding instruments, like boomwhackers and handbells, to create simple melodies.

4th and 5th grade have begun to learn how to play simple melodies on recorders. We have been learning songs to pass off to earn ‘belts’ for our recorders.

April 9-20

Pre-Preppers have sung “If You’re Happy and You Know it” and talked about how notes go up and down in music. We have also played instruments that sound like birds, like handbells and a xylophone.

Preppers have played “Hot Potato” and sung “Are You Sleeping.” We have also discussed how notes go up and down and listened to sounds in nature.

Pre-K through 5th grade have been working hard on the musical songs. We had a fabulous performance last Thursday evening! I am very proud of all the students involved in that performance. They did a great job singing “Give my Regards to George M. Cohan,” which is a medley of three songs written by Mr. Cohan, “You Can’t Stop the Beat” from Hairspray, “Seventy-Six Trombones” from The Music Man, “I Whistle a Happy Tune” from The King and I, “For Good” from Wicked, ”Seasons of Love” from RENT, and “We Go Together” from Grease.

March 26 – April 6

Pre-Preppers enjoyed singing nursery rhymes and exploring various instruments. We also hopped like bunnies and worked on recognizing instruments by sight.

Preppers sang rain songs and worked on rhythmic imitation. We also played “Freeze Dance” and worked on recognizing instruments by sight and sound.

Pre-K has been working hard on learning lyrics and movements for the upcoming spring musical.

Kindergarten through Fifth grade has been working on improving lyrics and movements for the musical, as well as working on memorization of speaking parts.

Pre-Preppers have worked on “Farmer in the Dell” and danced to Offenbach’s “Can-Can.” We also sang and acted out “Itsy Bitsy Spider” and “Row, Row, Row Your Boat.”

Preppers have worked on rhyming words, and performed nursery rhymes for classmates. We also danced to Offenbach’s “Can-Can” and classical music. 

Pre-K learned the rhyme, “An Old Person from Ware.” We have also spent a lot of time working on “Give my Regards to George M. Cohan” for the upcoming spring musical.

Kindergarten through 5th grade have been hard at work with improving techniques and lyrics for the songs we have learned thus far for the spring musical. We have worked on lyrics and movements for each song. We have learned six of the seven songs fairly well, and will learn the last song more in depth this coming week.

Pre-Preppers began to learn “Farmer in the Dell” last week. We also worked on loud vs. soft and instrument recognition by sight.

Preppers sang and acted out “Wheels on the Bus” last week. We also explored different ways to move and worked on rhythmic imitation.

Pre-K began to work on “Give my Regards to George M. Cohan,” one of the two songs Pre-K will be involved in for the musical.

Kindergarten and 1st grade worked on lyrics and movements for “Seventy-Six Trombones” and “I Whistle a Happy Tune.”

2nd through 5th grade reviewed songs learned thus far and worked on “I Whistle a Happy Tune” and “For Good.”

Pre-Preppers sang “Where is Thumbkin?” and “Do You Know the Muffin Man?” this week. We also used drums and rhythm sticks to work on rhythmic imitation.

Preppers reviewed learning about the trombone and were introduced to the violin. We also sang “I Know an Old Lady” and danced with scarves to classical music.

Pre-K played “Ring Around the Rosie” and “In and Out the Window.” We also used drums and rhythm sticks to work on rhythmic imitation.

Kindergarten and 1st Grade reviewed “Give my Regards to George M. Cohan” and worked more on lyrics and movements for “You Can’t Stop the Beat” and “Seventy Six Trombones.” We also listened to “I Whistle a Happy Tune.”

2nd through 5th grades reviewed “Give my Regards to George M. Cohan,” “You Can’t Stop the Beat,” and “Seventy Six Trombones.” We began to work on “I Whistle a Happy Tune” lyrics.
